Good morning. It's Tuesday, January 3. House Republicans on Monday voted to eviscerate the Office of Congressional Ethics, the independent body created in 2008 to investigate allegations of misconduct by lawmakers after several bribery and corruption scandals sent members to prison.

A powerful storm system that moved across the South on Monday killed four people in Alabama and left a trail of damage over several states; the threat continues into this morning for southern Alabama, southwest Georgia and the Florida Panhandle.
