Good morning. It's Friday, October 7. As Hurricane Matthew barreled up Florida's east coast, forecasters offered hope the Orlando area will escape the brunt of extreme weather.

In Haiti, however, at least 283 people died in just one part of the southwest, and the nation braced for a grim, rising death toll today.
