Jurors will hear closing arguments today at the Orange County Courthouse before they decide if Markeith Loyd should be sentenced to life in prison or the death penalty for killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon and her unborn child.
The partisan fight over abortion laws returned to the Florida Capitol on Tuesday, as GOP lawmakers pushed to require parental consent before a minor can receive an abortion and anti-abortion activists eye a new conservative Florida Supreme Court that could uphold more expansive abortion restrictions.
It's a bold idea in these divisive times — getting strangers to come together for a civil conversation — especially in a place where people are notoriously uninvolved. But on Thursday, the Central Florida Foundation hopes to have thousands of local residents join in what it's calling Table Talk — mostly small groups discussing what want to change about the community.
Scott Pelley of '60 Minutes' says: 'Journalism is taking a lot of hard knocks right now, and I don't want young people to be discouraged from joining the profession. There is no way that the American democracy can continue without journalism.'
