Some residents continue a push for a new name for Stonewall Jackson Middle School in east Orlando. An advisory panel recommended this fall that it be called simply Jackson Middle. But some residents are pushing for the Orange County School Board to adopt a completely new name, one that isn't tied to the Confederacy. The school board likely will take up the issue in early 2020. It has already renamed the other Orange public school once named for a Confederate leader. What was Robert E. Middle School is now called College Park Middle School, in recognition of the neighborhood in which it sits.
