| | Past week not total loss for UCF football | FSU, UF grab invigorating home victories | Host Orlando City wins against New England | | UF eventually coasted to a comfortable 38-14 win, using a balanced attack against one of the SEC's worst defenses to bounce back from last week's beatdown at Kentucky. | | | Not even the return of injured quarter John Rhys Plumlee, who was making his first start after missing the past three games with a knee injury, seemed to provide much of a spark. Plumlee played the first three possessions before being replaced by backup Timmy McClain midway through the second quarter. | | | Orange County Commissioners, who voted unanimously in favor of UCF getting $88 million to upgrade its football stadium, immediately became the biggest financial donors in UCF athletic history. And it's not even close. | | | FSU (5-0, 3-0 ACC) is perfect through five games for the first time since 2015. | | | All UM needed to do was take a knee, watch the time expire and move to 5-0. However, Miami did not do that. | | | The Lions secured second place in the Eastern Conference and home-field advantage in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs. | | | Jacksonville is 5-5 playing in London since 2013, including last week's victory against Atlanta. | | | The Dolphins' passing game ranks No. 1, and their run game also is at the top. But to defeat top teams such as the Bills and Eagles, and to win in the playoffs they need to be even better because the margin for error is razor thin, especially on the road. | | | On a busy cross country day, local team titles went to Hagerty, Master's Academy and Lake Minneola girls, and Horizon and Boone boys. In volleyball, Winter Park and Lake Highland Prep won tourney titles, while Bishop Moore finished second in the Swing for a Cure Invite it hosted. | | | Reigning state champ Lake Mary won the Qdoba Burrito Challenge girls golf tournament and the Rams boys team was also the top qualifier in the Qdoba boys tourney. In cross country, Jonathan Leon of Hagerty and Annabela Tomasic of Lake Highland Prep were tops at the FLRunners Invitational. | | | |
