Sentinel Sports Final

Sunday, October 6, 2024

Hold your pitchforks. Billy Napier's team either isn't as bad as it appeared to be, or UCF just isn't very good -- and KJ Jefferson and Cam Newton should never be mentioned again in the same sentence. ... Orlando City went on the road and pummeled the team with the third-best record in MLS. They weren't scoring like this during the first two months of the season. Pending the Nashville-New York City result Sunday, they'll be locked in to have home-field advantage in a first-round playoff matchup ... The best chance to end the Pride 's run of 23 games unbeaten comes today vs. the Spirit. They're the second-best team in NWSL, and the league's No. 2 team in goals scored. ... The Magic look the same, but their focus is better and they have some other things going for them in this training camp. Not to mention, Wendell Carter had hand surgery this offseason to fix a recurring problem that has caused him to miss blocks of time. The Sentinel's Jason Beede has been at camp all week and has the details. ... If Vanderbilt can upset No. 1 Bama, there's no reason UCF should be 0-2 vs. mediocre Colorado and Florida. ... FSU lost yet again, but the 'Noles were at least somewhat more watchable with Brock Glenn running the show. ... The 'Canes almost lost to Cal. Can you trust anyone in college football?
