QB Graham Mertz remains involved despite knee injury ending his Gators career

Graham Mertz said he felt a pop in his knee while making a cut during 15-yard run on third-and-4 during last weekend's overtime loss at Tennessee. He wasn't certain he had a serious injury until a 13-yard touchdown pass two plays later.

High school scores and top performers from Wednesday, Oct. 16

Among volleyball district winners were Winter Park, Osceola and Orangewood Christian, while Edgewater won the Toho cross country girls meet. Alex Remaklus shot 35 for East Ridge girls in golf, while Brady Coffin shot a 35 for Timber Creek boys golf. Richard Dannelly rolled a 459 series for Winter Springs boys bowling.

No. 1 Jones (6-0, 1-0 in Class 4A, District 7) was idle in Week 8 after Hurricane Milton wrecked last week's schedule, Many games were made up Monday. Jones rescheduled it's district showdown with Lake Wales (5-1, 2-0) for this Friday at Jones. Lake Wales will claim the district title with a victory, while Jones will have one district game remaining against Lake Region (0-6, 0-1).
