| Making SeaWorld's Mako Into a shark-smooth roller coaster SeaWorld Orlando introduced the public to its ride vehicle for its under-construction Mako roller coaster last week. Picture a blue, sharp-nosed, beady-eyed water creature with a SeaWorld logo on its snout. It looks very aerodynamic, which leads to my leftover tidbits about the ride. | Restaurants Music War at Orlando Blues-BQ WHAT: As election season wears on and controversy after controversy seems to place everyone on one side of some fence or another, don't you find yourself asking more and more War's philosophical query, "Why can't we be friends?" | Movies | Oscar parties at Enzian, Cinematique Every year Hollywood gets together in their most expensive, Marie Antionette-ish garments to pat themselves on the back for being superfamous and making tons of money, and then cap it all off by giving the awards to the movies no one saw. And for some reason this can be really fun to watch, especially in a crowd. | | Finally, another decent sports movie--about ski jump? Underdog sports movies like "Invincible" or "Miracle" almost never get points for originality. Person (or team) wants to succeed, everyone says person won’t, person doesn’t give up, person eventually has varying degree of victory. That’s the plotline, and it’s borderline pointless to complain about the formula. | Arts & Culture | Your art-to-do list There's a variety of happenings this week: museum lectures, outdoor festivals, international exhibitions and artsy fundraisers. Some are in/around Orlando, others a short drive. One must-see event is 200-plus miles away — in Miami. Even if you can't get there this week you have until May 15, so put it on your art to-do list now. | | | |
