WHAT: It's almost hard to remember the time when the distinction of American beers was choosing which lager you would drink. If you managed to get your hands on a stout or an IPA, it was an import and your patriotism was called into question. Kids today (the ones of legal drinking age, at least) are spoiled for choices from brewers not only in their own country, but their own state and sometimes their own city. The DeLand Craft Beer Festival is a perfect example. This small, vibrant, simple American town has spent the past seven years hosting a celebration of all things hoppy and malty that attracts crowds in the thousands. This year, the proceedings will include more than 70 breweries serving more than 350 beers, with half coming from right here in Florida. Even three home-brew clubs will be represented. What a time for taste buds!
