The tourism industry is

An Orlando Sentinel investigation called Laborland
Orlando is the most visited city in the nation, home to iconic theme parks and more than 129,000 hotel rooms. It's also home to an economy that consistently fails tourism workers, who struggle to feed their children, pay for medical bills or find affordable places to live.

Imagine if the nearly $300 million in hotel room taxes could be used to build affordable housing, fix congested roads or help eliminate overcrowded school classrooms. That happens in other tourist cities but not in Orlando. An Orlando Sentinel investigation called "Laborland" explains how Florida lawmakers who attempted to loosen restrictions on tourism tax money hit a major roadblock: the political clout of some tourism heavyweights.
