Happy hump day. I'm Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell, and our news cup runneth over today. For my column, I compiled a report card on how Florida is doing in its battle against COVID. (It's mixed. Good news on the vaccine front. Not-so-good news when it comes to the new variant, government secrecy and concerns about our vulnerable population.) That's in this "Florida COVID update." But we have much more – including revelations about $300,000 worth of golden parachutes that recently-ousted property appraiser Rick Singh gave some top staffers. (New appraiser Amy Mercado calls them "shockingly exorbitant.") A local lawmaker is targeting Twitter over alleged complicity when it comes to child pornography. And the Sentinel's editorial board accepted U.S. Sen. Rick Scott's challenge to prove he had a shoddy environmental record. (It did not go well for Scott.)
