As a freak winter storm batters Texas and surrounding states, the harsh weather had alligators in Oklahoma coping by their sticking snouts above ice as they temporarily shut down in a process called brumation, which is the reptile version of hibernation. Closer to home, a Florida rescue team is sending supplies and saving animals from the storm in other states. Big Dog Ranch Rescue in South Florida planned to send trucks full of supplies to Texas. In other animal news, a Humane Society veterinarian in Florida is accused of driving under the influence and botching a routine surgery on a dog, which later had to be euthanized.
