Sentinel Sports Final

Friday, May 19, 2023

The Sentinel's Jason Beede is in Tallahassee to follow what UCF hopes will be the start of a deep run into the NCAA tournament. The championship season for spring high school sports are kicking into high gear with track and field, softball and baseball. Weather, however, put a damper on spring football games and the NCAA tournament tennis quarterfinals at Lake Nona. On the pro sports front, the Denver Nuggets are halfway to their first NBA Finals appearance with a fourth-quarter comeback that knocked the wind out of the Lakers. It's easy to tell when LeBron James is running on fumes. He settles for 3s, which has never been his strength. His repeated misses (0-for-10 for the series) fueled Denver's transition game. And Anthony Davis (4-for-15 shooting) always appears to be on rubbery legs. The Florida Panthers, of course, don't wanna hear it. They had to play four OTs just to go up 1-0 vs. Carolina in an NHL conference final. And the once red-hot Tampa Bay Rays are now complaining about being (yawn) tired. Their 10-game road trip came to a merciful end. Now everyone catch your breath. It'll all start again this weekend. Can't wait.
